From a young age all Crystal wanted was to see outside the walls, see what was considered forbidden to her people. She would give anything to do that . . and she did just that when she joined the survey corps, training day in and out. Most nights had been spent staying up until she physically passed out from lack of sleep as it was an adjustment from her hometown. The feeling of missing home and a parental figure started kicking in around a year after training despite getting to see the outside the walls. She missed the days sheโd run into Carla [ Erenโs Mom ] at the local tavern not that sheโd be allowed to drink, but having the chances to see Carla made her happy as Carla was her second mom. The day the wall fell was the hardest for her. She expected her parents to come to the inner wall and find her, but another breach occurred which left her completely hopeless that her parents would ever come looking for her. She simply presumed them dead no matter how much it hurt, it was best to move on and keeping living her life the way she wanted with the only dream she ever had despite knowing if her parents were alive they would have stopped her, she knew it. She was living for herself until she came across the new Commander [ previously a section leader long ago ], by the time she was of legal age to drink, she had befriended the Commander, despite knowing either of them could die and that would be it [ cont. in their backstory ]. All she knew was she had to keep living and fighting despite the pain she went through mentally and physically. God that was the worst, she had been by the Commanders side for years and behind closed doors there was more to them. Once she hit twenty three to twenty four, she lost the only man whoโd given her hope and a shoulder to lean on. She had only one thing in his memory a small golden locket with green detailing on it, swirls almost and inside it was a picture of the pair, happy . . without a care in the world. She had to physically be pried away from Erwins dead body with lots of kicking and screaming along with her sobs of pain and heartache / heartbreak. She held resentment towards Levi for MONTHS after how he gave someone else another chance and not the commander . . the person she wa still in love with despite him not being around. She eventually came around and now works side by side with Hange/Hanji and Levi to help with tasks. Now at twenty seven / twenty eight she isnโt a squad leader by any means, but she still helps with expeditions and goes on them when sheโs required to which is more often than not.

They meet by the time she was of legal age to drink, she had befriended the Commander, despite knowing either of them could die and that would be it. Nothing more or less. She suffered from what some would call insomnia which caused her to have trouble sleeping especially in the dorms. She was seen romancing the halls by the Commander and instead of scolding her, he let her talk to him since she looked shaken up and he was caring for the most part. This blossomed into a friendship that was amazing, two years worth of that changed in seconds. A drunken kiss, an accident that was conversed on later in the following weeks once both could remember if it truly happened. With confrontation a confession was made by Crystal. Erwin depsite being at a loss for words was able to give the other the answer sheโd wanted. A yes. After that a relationship was formed slowly but surely despite being mostly being behind closed doors. The day she lost Erwin she lost part of herself. It wasnโt noticeable, but slowly her actions changed and she was slowly loosing the pep sheโd had once before and with her friends help she was finally able to be herself again, but only a little bit so.
